The first plans for the construction of the fountain were made in 1996. The trigger was the redesign of Kurkölner Platz. The Heimatverein Olpe and the surrounding area also participated in the planning. The sculptor Karl-Heinz Klein was commissioned with the artistic design. The inauguration of the fountain took place in 1998. The six most important events in the history of Olpe are presented on the fountain. There were also portraits of personalities in the city. In addition, coats of arms were shown, they refer to Kurköln, the city of Olpe, the district of Olpe and the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
