In the 8th century, Slavs built the Weinbergsburg as a ring wall on the vineyard on the edge of today's old town. Hitzacker was already an important trading center before the city was founded...

Many houses with their history are 'exhibited' around the museum. Both the theme of the 'East-West' border town and the flood experiences of various years are omnipresent. It's worth staying here.

Beautiful place on the Elbe, which has often been threatened by flooding and flooded. With the new dyke protective wall it survived the last flood well.
