Château du Girsberg

According to legend, two brothers lived separately in the castles. They woke themselves, as was their habit, with crossbow bolts fired at the shutters. Until one day a bullet hit the older brother in the heart. His younger brother disappeared into the forest in pain. It is said that his restless spirit still haunts the ruins.....

Château du Girsberg is the ruin of a spur castle in the area of Ribeauvillé and was first mentioned in documents in 1288.
Besieged and captured by the Lords of Rappoltstein during a feud in the first quarter of the 15th century, it was abandoned and left to decay at the beginning of the 16th century. The ruin, like the two neighboring castles Hoherappoltstein and Ulrichsburg, has been under monument protection since October 1, 1841 as a classified monument historique.
