On March 30, 1930, the "Holy Spirit Church" was consecrated on the highest point of the community Wohltorf - henceforth the "Kirchberg".
On July 14, 1950, a fire destroyed large areas of the church. While the main parts of the interior could be salvaged unscathed, flames and smoke damaged the altar cross, attached to chains by sculptor Walter von Ruckteschell made of light wood. It has been little restored and has since been hanging as a dark cross on the bright wall above the altar. The heat of the fire and the extinguishing water destroyed the organ.

The new organ comes from the workshop of the organ builder Rudolf von Beckerath.

Reconstructed according to a design by the architect Langmaack, the church has been extended, with major changes both inside and out. The "Trutzburg" became a simple rectangular building with saddle roof and dominating tower. At the top, the golden cross on the globe still outshines the now tall trees of the billet.
