A lot of wild chives grow in the upper part of the trench, hence the name. We also heard that some cooks go up and get the (organic) chives for their specialties.

The chive trench is currently (May 26th, 2021) not yet accessible from the Sonnwendjoch due to the still closed snow cover when descending into the protected trench, in which the snow remains for longer.
