Hiking Highlight (Segment)
Gorge hiking is THE big outdoor sport in the Alpbachtal in Tyrol. There are numerous narrow, steep and rugged gorges where adventurers find the perfect holiday experience. With the most beautiful gorge is without question the dramatic Kaiserklamm.
The Kaiserklamm lies, as well as the Tiefenbachklamm, in the Brandenberg Alps, over which the rough Rofan mountain range towers. As a nerve-racking outdoor athlete, you'll find narrow, steel-cord-bound cramps that lead through the narrow gorge under walls that are partly overhanging. In some places you have to lean far over the hedge to see the Brandenberger Ache still underneath you, that's how deep it has eaten in the rocks.
If the Kaiserklamm is too adventurous for you or your kids, then you can explore the nearby Kundler Klamm instead. This is one of the gentler gorges of the Alpbachtal. Hikers always have enough space to dodge the steep cliffs. For many it is a dream destination, because here you can find a true natural wonder made of stone - the Kundler conglomerate. It is a colorful collection of lime, dolomite and quartz.

The Kaiserklamm is a shorter, very beautiful gorge. After the actual gorge you should take the path to the right (naturally more beautiful). This runs parallel to the forest path. If you have arrived on the forest path, you hike to the next hiking signs (Erzherzog-Johann-Klause). The left path is nicer, but it goes up and down (easy). The right one leads directly to the forest path and is easy.
After 20 minutes you come to the forest path. The forest path to the Klause and stop off.
Watch out !!! On the way back at the first crossing point of the hermitage there is a yellow hiking sign that should lead to the left in the direction of the Kaiserklamm. That is simply not true. We tried it and ended up on the Ackeralm with a 15 km detour. There is also no way from the Ackeralm to the gorge. I have no idea why that sign is there. Especially since only Ackeralm is shown on the following signs.
