Hiking Highlight
Very original Rheinauen, obviously a paradise for numerous birds and water animals. A lot of dead wood in the water and some huge poplars and willows create an Amazon atmosphere here on the Rhine.

Man-made natural paradise
The near-natural floodplain landscape of the Binger Kribben hardly gives any indication that this is a technical structure (groynes). Originally built at the “Binger Loch” to make the Rhine more navigable, the lush vegetation now only partially allows a view of the stone groynes.
As a bird protection and FFH area, the Binger Kribben are subject to European protection status. Visitors are asked to behave considerately and not to disturb the wildlife.

It is home to a wide variety of (but mainly but not limited to) water birds, amphibians, reptiles and fish. Also very impressive are the huge dimensions of the driftwood, which is washed ashore here during floods and, as deadwood, serves as a shelter for many species.
