Beautiful, old houses form the center of Aschersleben. (e.g. the town hall)

The episcopal city was owned by the Bishop of Halberstadt and covered the area between Breite Straße in the north and Hopfenmarkt in the south.
It contained the first Romanesque St. Stephen's Church and a relatively large market square around this church.
While the suburb had a predominantly village character, the market around the Romanesque church in the Civitas already had an urban character due to the settlement of craftsmen and merchants.
In this area, today's market was created as a large square.
The areas of Vorder- and Hinterbreite and the Holzmarkt are the last extensions of the old town.(Source: Wikipedia)
