Above the canopy of the entrance to the Sparkasse on Friedensplatz, the statue of the man who founded the town of Klatovy around 1260 presides: Přemysl Otakar II. The fifth King of Bohemia from the Přemyslid dynasty was also Margrave of Moravia, Duke of Austria, Duke of Styria, Duke of Carinthia, and Margrave of Carniola. He lived from 1233 to 1278 and was very active as a founder of towns, castles, and monasteries. The statue was created by the Pilsen sculptor Karel Němec.
