The monument itself does not give too much. The award he has earned as the first and free promoter of the local area and tourism.

Joseph Victor von Scheffel (1826 - 1886) was a well-known author of verse, narration and lyrics. His verse poem "The Trumpeter of Säckingen" may have been especially popular; It not only made the name of the place known, but also inspired a silent movie director along with some composers! Alone, however, was his Wanderlied written in 1859 ("Wohlauf, the air goes fresh and pure"), which - in the setting of Valentin Eduard Becker - today mostly as "Franken song" is called and even considered the unofficial national anthem of Franconia.

Not so easy to find, but nice and interesting to read.
