"... The Quall is probably one of the oldest farming settlements. In 1155, Emperor Friedrich I Barbarossa confirmed a farm" curtem in Grucena "to the Knechtsteden Abbey near Neuss. The Quall was probably a single settlement. Beginning of the 17th century the land ownership extended over the middle of the Gruiten Honschaft, to the northern city limits of Mettmann and to the border of Haan in the south.
The Mühlbach below the jellyfish was dammed to irrigate the meadows.
In the 19th century, the "Quall" farm gradually broke up into many small parts.
