Schmiedefeld am Rennsteig has a long tradition of winter sports. Around the village there are some interesting sports facilities. The ski jumps on the I-line are certainly the most imposing buildings in this regard.

The namesake of the ski jumping facility is Richard Möller, a dedicated winter sportsman, trainer and judge in the disciplines of cross-country skiing and ski jumping. He lived from 1911 to 1968 in Schmiedefeld.

Under the leadership of Richard Möllers 1960 was begun near the sports field with the construction of a "pioneer ski jump". In the period until 1979, two more ski jumps were built, so that today is rightly spoken of a ski jumping facility.

The large hill, which was only modernized in 2008, has its K-point at 45 m. The K-points of the two smaller hills are 14 m and 30 m respectively. The jumps have a mat covering, which allows a year-round use.

The winter sports club Schmiedefeld (WSV) uses the jumps for the training of children and young people. Regular national and international junior competitions in the ski jumping and nordic combined disciplines also take place on the course.

Even outside the winter season, you can get a good view of the facility from here. It's impressive!
