    Cycling

Near the confluence of the Emscher and Rhine-Herne Canal stands Tadashi Kawamata's "Walkway and Tower" (2010). From the tower, there is a fantastic view of the surrounding landscape. Since the 1970s, Kawamata has been developing site-specific, architecture-related installations made of wood. Despite precise structural calculations, the works appear somewhat provisional and fragile, as if the construction were not intended to last. This oscillation between construction and deconstruction is characteristic of Kawamata's work and also distinguishes "Walkway and Tower."

Unfortunately, the tower has recently been repeatedly vandalized and has been closed off at times.

    Nice idea.
Another great thing on the Emscher cycle path. 😉
