The Prinz-Max-Palais is a Wilhelminian-style villa, initially called Palais Schmieder. August Schmieder had the building built at that time in the years 1881 to 1884 as his retirement home for the elderly. Prince Max of Baden bought the villa after Schmieders demise and moved in 1900. After the palace had changed ownership and function several times, in 1981 the Prinz-Max-Palais moved into a municipal cultural center with the Stadtmuseum Karlsruhe, the youth library of the Stadtbibliothek Karlsruhe, the Museum of Literature on the Upper Rhine and the seat of the Literary Society Karlsruhe , There is also a small cinema and a nice cafe with a very nice courtyard.

Nice building with nice restaurants, where you can sit outside in the evening - atmospheric lighting.
In the city museum I like the architectural models very well. The development of the city is also very easy to understand there.
