In the 1540s, a garden was laid out to the east of the castle. Today, only the swan pond remains of it. In the mid-17th century, a new garden was created to the southwest of the castle. The present-day Botanical Garden directly west of the castle was also originally part of the castle gardens.

The Castle Gardens of Uppsala (Slottsparken) extend around the castle, forming an extensive green area on the castle hill. Well-kept lawns, old trees, and wide paths create a peaceful contrast to the castle's historic architecture and invite a relaxing stroll. Due to the elevated location, beautiful views of Uppsala and especially the distinctive towers of the Cathedral open up from several points. The Castle Gardens also connect the castle with the adjacent Botanical Garden and are ideal as a green section of a tour through the historic and university districts of the city.
