Herrenhäuser Allee is Hanover's perfectly straight linden tree axis in the Georgengarten. Stretching for two kilometers, it runs from Königsworther Platz to the library pavilion at the Berggarten. It was laid out in 1727 by landscape architect Ernst August Charbonnier as a prestigious connection between the city and the Guelph summer residence in Herrenhausen. Four rows of linden trees form three paths – historically separated for carriages, riders, and pedestrians. After suffering severe war damage, the trees were completely replaced in the 1970s, predominantly with imperial lindens.
