In 2023, the municipality of Holsbeek created a new nature reserve in the Holsbeeks Broek nature reserve specifically for the endangered Great Crested Newt. This was achieved with the help of the North Hageland Regional Landscape and funding from the province of Flemish Brabant. The endangered Great Crested Newt has been gone from Holsbeek for some time, but it belongs there. Numerous other species in the area, such as the Blackthorn Hairstreak and the dragonfly, also benefit from the redevelopment.
