The documentation of special events in the history of Soest's settlement and town and, above all, the everyday life of the citizens in the form of archaeological objects is the focus of the Burghof Museum. For example, the department of "Prehistory and Early History" is located in the basement of the Burghof Museum. The first traces of settlement in the Soest urban area from the Neolithic to the Franconian period are presented here. Boards and showcases with various archaeological and paleontological finds provide information on all traces that can be found in the city and beyond: from the Linear Pottery Culture (approx. 5,500 BC) to the Merovingian period.
