The Begijnenvest is the part of the city ramparts that runs near the Begijnhof. The Begijnhof already existed in 1244 and around that time the city ramparts bordering it were constructed. The Begijnenvest runs from the Begijnhof and Wijngaardplein, past the Minnewater to the Minnewaterbrug and the Poertoren. There it turns right and runs to the Boeveriestraat. Due to the construction of the Ringweg (R30), the small section near the Boeveriestraat has become isolated from the rest of the Begijnenvest. Source Wikipedia
