Hiking
The two lakes, Poppelsee and Kaltenbachsee, are timber rafting lakes from times gone by. They were created by the Enz Valley rafters around 1750 and, with their large amounts of water, played an important role back then.
In the past, the impounded lakes were used to transport the logs, tied together into rafts, down the valley and further via the Enz, Neckar, and Rhine rivers to a destination in the Netherlands. Today, the two timber rafting lakes are a true idyll and a worthwhile destination for hikers. The bodies of water can be circumnavigated on narrow paths.
