Out of gratitude that Frankendorf survived the last days of the war unscathed in April 1945, the people of Frankendorf built their local church under the leadership of Mayor Georg Brütting. The building was constructed in 1947/48 under difficult economic conditions. The stones were broken by hand on site in the community's own quarries. Before the currency reform, other building materials could only be obtained in exchange for bread and other foodstuffs. The church was built with donations and personal contributions from the citizens of Frankendorf. The chapel, which was built in the neo-Gothic style, blends harmoniously into the townscape of the half-timbered ensemble of Frankendorf.

The altarpiece from 1948 was created by Paul Plontke (1884-1966), who was nicknamed the "Silesian Madonna Painter" and was active as a church painter throughout Germany.
