On the Rhineland-Palatinate side of the Rhine, the 53-meter-high neo-Romanesque bridge tower of the "old" Worms Rhine Bridge (Nibelungen Bridge), known as the "Nibelungen Tower," still stands—a monumental tower in the "Nibelung style" and a grand entrance to the city of Worms. It was built in 1900 according to plans by city architect Karl Hofmann.

Until 1945, an identical "twin tower" stood on the opposite bank of the Rhine, now in Hesse. The tower on the Hessian side was destroyed shortly before the end of the war and was not rebuilt.
