This rusty, gold-red sculpture stands on a corner by the castle moat in Nyborg.
The motif is somewhat difficult to decipher at first glance.
Geometric shapes and lines meander into each other, giving
    the sculpture a decorative touch.
A closer look reveals a person with a large, elongated figure. From the title, we know it's a fish—perhaps a small whale. The person is straining in the embrace—lifting, pushing, or pulling on the large animal.

The sculpture was created by the Funen artist Harvey Martin and installed in Nyborg in 1997 as part of the exhibition "Church in Assembly Set for Self-Builders,"
which included a number of Martin's sculptures.

Harvey Martin (1943-2014) was an artist from Funen with a close connection to Nyborg. He trained as a blacksmith and later as a sculptor at the Funen Art Academy.

Martin's work has evolved over time from concrete abstraction to a more figurative language. He is known for his large-scale public sculptures made of Corten steel, which takes on a golden, rust-red color over time.

This Corten steel sculpture is "Den med fisken" by Harvey Martin, created in 1997 and erected at the intersection of Havnegade and Adelgade in Nyborg. It depicts a stylized figure embracing, lifting, or pulling a large fish figure—the interpretation remains open. "Den med fisken" is not a sculpture with a single meaning. It invites us to engage—with nature, identity, responsibility, and perhaps even guilt. The simplicity of the title ("The One with the Fish") contains the very openness: It's not about the what or why—but about how we interact with nature.
