In 1902, Prince Heinrich XXII was buried here. It was his wish to be as close to the forest as possible.
The grave later fell into disrepair and the bones were burned in the crematorium in 1969 and taken to the new Greiz cemetery.
The mausoleum was renovated in 1994.
In 1997, the urn found a place in the town church of St. Mary.
