The Summer Palace combines three collection focal points under one roof. The art treasures of the Greiz Princely House, which were transferred to the Free State of Thuringia as part of a settlement in 1921 as the “Foundation of the Elder Line of the House of Reuss”, have been accessible to the public since 1922. This includes, on the one hand, the court library and, on the other hand, the copper engraving collection.

Starting from a considerable collection of historical caricatures, the “Greizer SATIRICUM” was founded in 1975 and thus a planned collection of contemporary caricatures on a museum level.
