The Burschenschaftsdenkmal was built between 1900 and 1902 under the responsibility of the Eisenach master mason Gustav Stein. The 33-meter-high monument, dedicated to the students who fell in the anti-Napoleonic Wars of Liberation, was solemnly inaugurated on May 22, 1902.
