Ehrenburg Castle was the residence castle of the Dukes of Saxe-Coburg. The castle is located on the eastern edge of the historic old town of the Upper Franconian town of Coburg.It originated from 1543 from a Franciscan monastery. The end of the 16th century was followed by an extension. In 1690, the castle was rebuilt into a baroque three-wing complex, and in the 19th century, according to the designs of Karl Friedrich Schinkel, received a Gothic façade and residential and festival rooms designed in French Empire style. Today, the castle houses the Landesbibliothek Coburg. Around 25 historically furnished rooms can be visited in guided tours.
