The name Museumsdorf Seppensen officially exists only since 2012. This makes it one of the youngest open-air museums in Germany. Its origin is due to the honorary commitment of the members of the History and Museum Association Buchholz and the surrounding area e. V., especially its founder Gerhard Kegel (1934 - 2008) and the home researcher Dr.. Ulrich Klages (1938 - 2007), in collaboration with the city Buchholz.

At the beginning of the development was the opening of a small local museum in 1980 in the old Seppenser village school. The preliminary conclusion is the construction of a historic blacksmith's shop in 2013. During this time, a small farming village, which is characteristic of the North Heath, gradually developed. The individual buildings are kindly grouped around a central village square. There are more than 300 years old Sniers Hus from Regesbostel near Hollenstedt with its outbuildings, a bakery from Kampen and a passage barn from Otter, the historic forge from Lüdingen, Kreis Rotenburg (Wümme) and the old Seppenser village school. The school is the only one not implemented. Appropriately, the large doors of the building open to the central village square. Thus the farm wagons could reach the inside of the houses to be loaded and unloaded, even in the village school.

The four half-timbered houses that were rebuilt in the museum village of Seppensen could be saved from total loss. They are not only representative of the traditional rural home landscape of the northern heath around 1850, but also reflect the living and working places of the social groups of our old villages.

Worth seeing historical museum village. It's worth taking a little break here.
