The Woudegamaal was designed by Ir. Dirk Frederik Wouda and is located just outside the center of Lemmer. The pumping station is the largest steam pumping station ever built, the chimney is no less than 60 meters high. The pumping station is still in use, although on average it is only used once a year during very extreme rainfall. This building is so unique that it has been designated as one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the Netherlands.
