The Old Monastery Cemetery on Stader Straße was set up in 1853 because the old monastery members had not been allowed to bury their dead in the area of the former monastery courtyard since 1812. Until 1853, however, people continued to be buried in the old Altklosteraner Friedhof.
With the construction of the forest cemetery in Buxtehude, the cemetery on Stader Straße was closed in 1970 and is now an enchanted oasis of calm. Only a few tombstones and some impressive family burial sites remain today, along with the remains of a fence here and there.
