Very nice courtyard of the hospital.
The Juliusspitalpark - a little break in the city center
The Juliusspital is a foundation established by Prince Bishop Julius Echter von Mespelbrunn, which includes a hospital, a senior citizens' foundation and a winery. The hospital is located in the northern part of the city center, directly on the Julius promenade, and with its publicly accessible park in the inner courtyard, it offers a little break from the sometimes hectic city bustle.
The creation of the park
In 1597, Julius Echter had a medicinal herb garden laid out at the hospital he founded in order to supply his hospital with it. From this a botanical garden developed in 1696 and later, in 1854, finally the recreation park for patients, which is also open to the public.
Explanations of the trees and plants in question can still be found in the park today.
What does the park have to offer?
The park is divided into two areas. In the first courtyard of the hospital there are two lawns, which are rounded off with fountains and pretty flower beds. The actual park is located behind the north wing of the building complex.
The garden pavilion is definitely a highlight in the park. This baroque building, built between 1704 and 1714, is not only pretty to look at, but is also still actively used. In the past it was used by the prince-bishop's court for festivities, today it is used for concerts and conferences.

On the sign in front of the fountain is written: "The allegorical figures under the Greiffenclau coat of arms represent the four most important Franconian rivers Main, Tauber, Sinn and Saale."

In the winter months, the fountain figures are unfortunately very difficult to see because of the pyramid-shaped roof 😒
