When the building of the church could begin in 1765 after all adversities had been cleared up and after the land was transferred by the prince-bishop (Adam Friedrich v. Seinsheim), the Jesuit order came about by the pope (Clemens XIV) during the already dragging on Construction work meanwhile was dissolved in 1773. The construction work was only resumed after the college was taken over by the university seminary in 1796-98 with the expansion of the west choir (!) And then stalled again for the Napoleonic period and due to the secularization. The church was not completed until 1831 and was consecrated to the Archangel St. Michael.

Large, plain, National Socialist architecture. Functional church with a Kleis organ and good acoustics for orchestra and choir performances.

The church is dedicated to the Archangel Michael. According to the tradition of the first book of Moses, Michael was the angel with the sword who drove Adam and Eve out of paradise and guarded the tree of life.
