In European culture in the 19th century, the obelisk, which was considered the seat of the morning sun from the Egyptian word meaning and in this sense symbolized the rising and glowing of the sun, has been interpreted in many ways. It stands as a geometric landmark or as a memorial stone for extraordinary people, but also as a Christian symbol for the connection between man and God.
The obelisk is reminiscent of Johann Franz Romanus Schenk von Stauffenberg, who converted the baroque park into a spacious complex in the English style. Franz Romanus was born on July 16, 1733 in Amerdingen, studied in Mainz and Göttingen, married Marie Caroline Freiin Zobel von Giebelstadt. As Prince Bamberger Rat, Hofmarschall (1761), Oberamtmann in Höchstadt, knight captain of the canton of Gebürg (1779), he served as Prince Bishop Franz Ludwig von Erthal and built the new Bamberg hospital under his reign. Johann Franz was the master of Amerdingen and Greifenstein. He died on June 12, 1979 in Bamberg and is buried in the Upper Parish Church. The sons honored their parents with the obelisk on the occasion of their father's 60th birthday.

The obelisk was built in 1793 in honor of Johann Franz Romanus Schenk von Stauffenberg. This planted the Kastanienallee along the northern main axis and began with the transformation of the rigidly arranged French into an English landscape garden.
