There is no doubt that from this point you have the best view of the castle of the Counts of Stauffenberg. The family of the Counts of Stauffenberg gained particular importance through the great-uncle of the present owner, Colonel Claus Schenk Count von Stauffenberg, who assassinated Hitler on July 20, 1944 and, like his brother Berthold, who participated in the coup, paid with his life.

Greifenstein Castle is one of the most famous mountain castles in the Frankenjura. The first mention was made in 1172. The core of the castle is medieval, but the outer shape was redesigned in 1683/93 according to plans by Leonard Dientzenhofer. It has been owned by the Counts Schenk von Stauffenberg since the end of the 17th century. It is worth visiting the extensive arms and antler collection of the Counts of Stauffenberg.
