The Escalier Monumental Saint-Pierre in Pont-Saint-Esprit is an impressive 19th-century staircase. It connects various parts of the city and facilitates access to the historic center and the Church of Saint-Pierre. Today, it is not only functional but also a popular spot for visitors and locals.

The Saint-Pierre Monumental Staircase was built between 1848 and 1858 and serves as a link between the Priory of Saint-Pierre and the Church of Saint-Saturnin. It was designed by Ponts et Chaussées and completed under the direction of the engineer Gustave Bouyer. The local sculptor Machin designed the decorative elements, which depict Christian symbols such as angels and religious motifs.

The staircase extends 75 meters long and 10 meters high and is divided into two parallel volutes. The central section is supported by seven arcades resting on artistically designed consoles. The decoration includes Lombard bands, pilaster strips, and blind arches reminiscent of medieval architecture.

In 2012, the staircase was closed to the public due to damage to the balustrade. After approximately three years of intensive work, the historic structure officially reopened on October 8, 2024.
