The church was damaged in 1562 and 1793, but from 1835 onward, it was restored, and the side chapels were rebuilt. The church features a remarkable Gothic portal. The current church was rebuilt between 1779 and 1784 by Jean-Pierre Franque (1718-1810) based on the plans of a Parisian architect named Hélin. The vault was built according to Franconian custom. The new building is based on the medieval constructions, some remains of which still remain.
