After the Second World War, it was initially called Haus der Einheit (House of Unity), from 1950 to 1954 Haus der Offiziere (House of Officers) and from 1954 to 1990 Haus der Armee (HdA), as the National People's Army used it.
The coat of arms, eight meters wide and four meters high, was created by the Greifswald sculptor Heinrich Zenichowski.
