In the south of the city is the animal park "Fasanerie", opened in 1956, in which about 48 different animal species live on an area of about 2.5 hectares. Native species such as fallow deer, moufflons and others are at home here as well as some exotic animals. a. various parakeets, llamas and the lemurs from Madagascar.On the grounds there is a children's playground with various sports equipment. On the first Sunday in July, the traditional Tierparkfest attracts many visitors to the zoo. The Easter egg hunt on Easter Sunday is very popular with our guests. After a visit to the zoo you can continue the walk in the adjacent forest to the foundations of the Walpurgis Monastery.Since October 1995 disabled people from the Marienstift Arnstadt have been entrusted with animal care in the zoo. In this way, a field of employment was created in which people with disabilities, together with other employees, take care of the welfare of the animals. Thanks to the active support of all animal park staff, the responsible persons, the supporters and sponsors, the zoo could be maintained in its scope and its manifold offers.
