The Alteburg was a hill fort (Schwedenschanze) and lies as a high plateau on a mountain spur between the valley of the Wild Gera and the Jonastal south of Arnstadt.
The place was settled in different prehistoric periods and secured with ramparts and ditches. Today the area is declared a ground monument. In connection with the Alteburgturm, Königstuhl, Schneckchen, Kreuzchen and Kämpfs Ruh a very beautiful and promising hiking tour.
