The Hirschley lies at an altitude of 512 meters above sea level. From here you have an impressive panoramic view of Lake Rursee and the steep slopes of the north bank.
Since the national park was founded in 2004, natural forests have been able to develop again on 110 km². The mountain range of the "Kermeter" with its typical beech indoor forests, which was the largest nature reserve in the region with an area of over 3,000 hectares, was one of the core areas of the national park.

Wild Kermeter:
The barrier-free nature experience area Wilder Kermeter enables nature experience for people with and without disabilities on their own: Barrier-free, fine graveled trails of 4.7 km in length open up the internationally important red beech mixed forests and two popular viewpoints in the forest area Kemeter. The terrain model on the rocky outcrop Hirschley lets sighted and non-sighted people feel the forest-lake landscape. Every 250 meters there are benches for resting. In addition, sensory couching at three locations offers new perspectives on the emerging second-hand virgin forests. The Wild Kermeter has barrier-free toilets, disabled parking and a barrier-free bus stop. All information Wild Kermeter are available in raised capital letters and in braille or acoustically.

At the viewpoint Hirschley offers an excellent view over the Rurstausee and the surrounding area.
Due to the massive built shelter you can rest well even in bad weather here.

The barrier-free "Wilder Kermeter" nature experience area newly opened in May 2011 in the ecological heart of the national park comprises a barrier-free trail network of 4.7 km in length. Fine gravel paths with tactile differences in soil structure open up the internationally important red beech mixed forests and two popular vantage points of the Kermeters. Start of the hike is at the hiking car park Kermeter (Kermeter road) The lookout point "Hirschley"! was recently even voted by viewers of WDR 99 places to be selected on the 4th place and on number 1 of nature's favorite places. For demanding and sure-footed hikers, the large overall route is recommended. Starting point of the hike is the hiking car park "Kermeter". Tip: A large rest area with forest mushroom invites you to picnic.
