The Waldsassener Kasten (Waldsassen Box) is a building commissioned by Johann Jacob Philipp Muttone for the Waldsassen Monastery between 1739 and 1742. At that time, the monastery owned extensive land holdings around Weiden. The Waldsassener Kasten was used to manage and store the monastery's dues. After the building was renovated from 1986 to 1989, the International Ceramics Museum moved into the monastery's baroque farmyard in April 1990. The former farmyard now houses the International Ceramics Museum, a two-museum collection of the Neue Sammlung München (New Collection Munich), and the regional library.
