A kind of cloister surrounds the market place in Freudenstadt. The tour under the pillars and along the shop windows lets you experience the marketplace from different perspectives. Details emerge - small boutiques, the smell of bread from several bakeries, hidden fountains and sculptures. The market square in Freudenstadt is the largest enclosed market square in Germany and measures 219 x 216 metres. It was built in 1599 according to master builder Heinrich Schickhardt's plans in the form of a mill board. Today the market square is divided into the upper market square, the lower market square and the post office.

At 219 x 216 m the largest converted market square in Germany. Built in 1599 according to the plans of master builder Heinrich Schickhardt. The floor plan corresponds to a mill board game. It is divided into three parts and crossed by streets in the Upper Market Square, Lower Market Square and Postplatz. The Upper Market Square is suitable for numerous markets and it is framed by buildings in Arkadenbauweise .. At the corners are in two places Winkelhaken building: the city church and the Schickhardtbau in which the police is housed. The Lower Market Square was redesigned in 1999 for the 400th anniversary. On an inclined surface of 45 x 18 m, 50 water fountains were created. Directly on the water surface, the floor plates are laid as Mühlebrettspiel. (By the way, the pieces can be borrowed from the Tourist Information.)
