The bronze sculpture "Reclining Woman" (1923) was created by the Swiss sculptor Fritz Huf (1888-1970) on commission from Hans (Jean) Fürstenberg, the artist and sculptor's brother-in-law. It stood in the garden of the Fürstenberg family villa in Berlin-Tiergarten until at least 1932. After some turbulent times, the bronze sculpture resided for almost 40 years (from 1951 to 1990) in the garden of Schönhausen Palace, the residence of the first president and later guesthouse of the GDR. From September 1990 to April 2022, it was stored in the depot of the National Gallery.
