Insanity castle / castle and great views! Fabulous stories and anecdotes were really sensationally brought over by our guide (a picture of him is there). Sensational and definitely this man has earned a big tip. He brings it over so vividly that even the children listen to him after an hour still tense. Respect.

The castle is clearly visible from the Pustertaler Straße between Schabs and Mühlbach, stretched out on a narrow rocky outcrop that slopes steeply down to the Rienz Gorge on three sides.
It was built in the first half of the 12th century by Friedrich I von Rodank and originally only consisted of a residential tower and a palace.
In 1491 the complex passed to the barons (and later counts) of Wolkenstein-Rodenegg, who enlarged it in the 16th century and expanded it to resemble a castle.
The founder of the Wolkenstein-Rodenegg line was Oswald von Wolkenstein; his descendants still own the castle today.
