The monument to Mihaj Viteazul (Michael the Brave) is the city's most monumental sculpture. The equestrian statue was erected in 1976. Michael the Brave was the first ruler to briefly unite three Romanian provinces: Wallachia, Moldavia, and Transylvania, in 1599 and 1600.

Equestrian statue of Michael the Brave (Statuia ecvestră a lui Mihai Viteazul din Alba Iulia),... Around 1600, Michael the Brave was simultaneously Prince of Transylvania, Wallachia and Moldova and thus united the three historical parts of Romania for the first time. He is therefore revered as a national hero. The bronze statue was designed by Oscar Han, is 8.5 meters high and stands on a two-meter-high stone base. It was inaugurated in 1968 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Romania's unity.
