Bike Touring Highlight
The Haldensleber Roland is the Rolandstand picture of the city Haldensleben.
It is located in front of the Town Hall and is the only riding Roland in Europe. He is considered a creative highlight in Rolandbildnerei. Originally the statue was also rotatable. It represents a symbol of urban rights.
1419, the standing Roland figure was first mentioned in the city books of Haldensleben. There are reports that the figure was first in Hehlingen (now district of Wolfsburg) for several years and then was kidnapped to Haldensleben. The figure was later submerged and was replaced in 1528, possibly in connection with the market privilege of 1526, by a stone-riding successor.Source and further information:
