It was built on the foundations of older church buildings. Even before the destruction of the city Haldensleben by troops of the Magdeburg Archbishop Wichmann in 1181 there was a church here. This was destroyed in 1181. Together with the reconstruction of the city was then from 1223 the construction of a new church. From 1375, the construction of a three-nave church in Gothic style began. In a city fire in 1661, however, this structure was largely destroyed. The reconstruction was completed in 1675. The church had two towers and corresponded otherwise essentially the present form.
After a collapse of the southern tower in 1808, the northern tower was demolished. From 1812, a new tower was built according to plans of the district architect Friedericus Germanus Weishaupt. [1] For the tower dome, the tower of the BerlinerSt. Marienkirche served as a model.Source:
