A kil is a small harbour in a channel that dries up at low tide. At this kil or channel the Vliet flows into the Scheldt. Vliet is a name that is often given to watercourses that flow into the Scheldt. The difference between high and low tide here is on average about 4 metres. (At spring tide the differences are even greater)
At high tide a small ship can sail in or out. Many of these kilns occur along the Zeeschelde.
Between the loose stones of the slope you will find cleavers, cattail, reed, wolf's foot and herb Robert. In May the cow parsley adorns some parts of the dike, later in the spring hogweed and carrot follow. Himalayan balsam blooms in the summer months.
On the other side of the dike we have a beautiful view of the Vlassenbroekse Polder.
