The golden Hachenburg lion on the fountain in the market square. The lion has a forked tail. It used to be the county of Sayn-Sayn. When they were split into Sayn Prussia and Sayn Nassau, the tail was also split.

The water supply point where the Lion Fountain stands today was probably already in use in the 15th century. The golden, two-tailed lion—the Sayn heraldic animal—which bears the town coat of arms of Hachenburg, has been there since the end of the 19th century. During the last fountain renovation, the lion's tongue was replaced by a blue one. In any case, it watches what's going on in the market square and makes a lovely photo subject.
