Before 1657 and again from 1678-1680, Count von Sayn-Hachenburg, Salentin Ernst von Manderscheid and Blankenheim, tried to direct traffic on Cologne-Frankfurt-Strasse (today's B 8) via Hachenburg. This should no longer branch off from Cologne-Leipziger-Straße (today's B 414) in Altenkirchen, but instead lead from Hachenburg past Alpenrod via Lochum to Wölferlingen and meet the original route there again. However, the elector of Trier opposed these plans. The diversion - called "Alte Poststrasse" - had to be reversed and was soon forgotten. In local traffic, however, it was still used, such as a register from 1689 confirmed.
